Latisse
What does Latisse® do?
Latisse (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution ) is the first and only scientifically proven product approved by the FDA to stimulate eyelash growth. It is a topical prescription product by Allergan (the makers of Botox and Juvederm).
Latisse® is believed to increase the length of the growth phase of the eyelash as well as increase the number of hairs in this growth phase. The exact way it works is unknown. Clinical studies have shown Latisse highly effective, with eyelashes typically growing 25% longer, 106% thicker and 18% darker with regular use.
How to Use
Apply Latisse® to clean, dry eyelids. If you wear contact lens, the lenses should be removed prior to application of Latisse and may be reinserted 15 minutes after. Apply brush along the base of the upper lashes, as you would eyeliner, once daily.
Blot any excess solution beyond the eyelid with a tissue. Avoid getting the solution into your eyes or on the skin under your eyes. If this occurs it is not a cause for concern, you may experience a slight irritation or redness in or around the eyes.
Use Latisse® until your eyelashes have reached the length you desire. You can maintain your lash length by using Latisse 2 -3 times per week. Latisse can also be used to stimulate eyebrow growth.
What You Can Expect
Longer lashes can typically be seen within 4 to 8 weeks. In some cases, eyelash growth can be seen in as little as 3 weeks or may take up to 3 months. Once your lashes have reached the desired length reduce applications to 2-3 times per week. This is necessary to maintain your results. If application is discontinued the eyelashes will begin to shed normally and return to their pretreatment appearance in 2-4 weeks.
Precautions
When used as directed on the eyelids for eyelash growth, Latisse® has been proven safe with no serious adverse events reported. Side effects were typically limited to temporary redness of the eye or eyelids. When used directly in the eye daily for glaucoma treatment, other side effects have been reported such as darkening of the skin under the eyes or the irises. If you are using prescription products for lowering eye pressure or have a history of eye pressure problems, only use LATISSE® under close doctor supervision.
